Where Volcanoes, Culture & Stories....Come Alive
Experience Hawaiʻi through volcanoes, gods, kings, legends, and cultural storytelling on an immersive journey through one of the most fascinating landscapes on Earth. This is more than a volcano tour—it's a deeper look into the geology, history, mythology, and living culture that have shaped Hawaiʻi for generations.
Beginning at Kīlauea Visitor Center, we'll journey to the summit of Kīlauea while exploring how five volcanoes formed Hawaiʻi Island and continue reshaping the land today. Along the way, you'll learn about the powerful 2018 eruption, lava flows, the creation of new land, and the forces that continue to build and transform the youngest island in the Hawaiian chain.
At the summit, take in breathtaking views of Halemaʻumaʻu crater while learning about Pele, Hawaiian beliefs surrounding volcanoes, and why this landscape remains sacred to many people today.
As we walk back, we'll journey through Hawaiian history and culture—from the major Hawaiian deities and the meaning of aloha to the story of King Kamehameha and his quest to unite the islands. Learn about prophecy, warfare, the construction of Puʻukoholā Heiau, the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom, the preservation of Hawaiian language and culture, and the traditions that continue to shape Hawaiʻi today.
We'll also explore the Hawaiian concept of oral tradition—how stories, knowledge, genealogy, and history were passed from generation to generation through conversation, storytelling, chants, and "ha," or breath. You'll discover why language is more than communication and how it helps carry culture, values, and worldview across time.
We'll then journey inside an ancient lava tube and explore the hidden pathways once used by flowing lava beneath the surface. This unique setting also provides an opportunity for dramatic silhouette photographs, creating some of the most memorable images of your time in Hawaiʻi.
This experience is designed for travelers who want more than a sightseeing stop. Whether lava is visible or not, you'll leave with a deeper understanding of Hawaiʻi, its people, and the stories that continue to live on through the land.
